On all of my saltwater salmon trips I have always paid attention to the stomach contents when the days catch is cleaned. On every trip there has been at least one squid removed from the belly of a salmon. I consider squid patterns to be at least as effective as bait fish patterns when trolling for feeding salmon in the salt. These flies are tied with a mix of saddle hackle, marabou, silicone legs, UV and glow in the dark materials. I also recommend stacking some "glow in the dark" beads onto the line between the hook and the rear of the fly to move the hook back and adding some glow. Glow beads can be added in front of the fly also.
