ARCTIC FOX TROLLING FLIES

This is my original trolling fly pattern tied with arctic fox fur.  I launched this web site with this pattern in 2003.   It has a front and a middle wing which allows me to imitate a number of bait fish as well as tying it in the classic single colors.  It is tied on a #2, 4X-Long Gamagatsu streamer hook to have a hook as good as the flies.  Each fly comes with an instruction sheet and a "Series I Action Disc".

Black #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

Black is a good color in low light or muddy water conditions.  By definition low light means very little light to reflect off of flashy materials.  It is the contrast that makes it visible.  Hold this black fly up against the night sky and it is visible.

Rainbow Trout #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

It has been speculated that 40% of all rainbow smolts planted are eaten by larger trout. The rainbow (olive/pink-blue/white) is the most popular of the bait fish series.

Cop Car #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

This color combination is most effective in lakes that have shad as the prime forage fish such as Lake Shasta and New Melones in California. The color scheme of black/gray/white fur imitates the shad. The flash of UV and holographic purple tied in on the sides along with the pearl mylar body mimic the light reflected from a shad. This fly is a good choice for deep water lakes anywhere.

UV Pond Smelt #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

This all white fly has UV flash and a few strands of holographic purple. It is a close approximation to the pond smelt bait fish that is the main food source in Lakes Almanor and Oroville in California. It is also a good match for other members of the smelt family from the Puget Sound to the Great Lakes. The white fur is a good base for creating your own color schemes with felt tip pens.

Lahontan Redside Minnow #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each. This is an imitation of the primary bait fish of the Lake Tahoe & Truckee River drainage.  The minnow has an olive top, black stripe and a whitish belly.  It turns very red during spawning, hence the name redside minnow..  It is also like a dace which inhabits many of the trout waters in North America.

Brown Trout #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

This fly is brown-olive / yellow. In addition to being suggestive of a brown trout it also resembles the colors of carp and other course fish found in muddy environments.

Tui Chub #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

This olive/white pattern has gold and red flashabou highlights. It is the main bait fish of the Great Basin stretching from the Cascades and Sierras of the West Coast to the Rockies. These minnows have sides that are a pearl-gold hue. Under their scales are hints of red that show when approached from the rear. The red becomes more dominant during spawning season. These same colors resemble various species of bass throughout North America.

Cinnamon #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

This medium brown fly works well in waters with brown leeches. It is another fly in the red-orange-copper-brown spectrum. Cinnamon brown is a perennial favorite at Eagle Lake CA.

CINNAMON
Orange #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each. This is my go-to fly.  I always start with orange on one of the rods on my boat and it's the last color I will switch out. This is also a perennial favorite color for Eagle Lake. Is it my best color because I have it in the water longer or because the fish do prefer it? Try one and decide for yourself. The red-orange-copper-brown color spectrum provides the best contrast in green algae tinted waters.

Mickey Finn #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

This yellow/red/yellow color combination has been popular for more than 100 years. This bright pattern is effective in stained water such as during the annual algae die off in Eagle Lake during September and October. It has been a favorite fall brook trout pattern in New England. It would be among the first colors I try when targeting browns and other trout below 25 foot depths.

Chartreuse #2 Arctic Fox Trolling Fly.  Sold boxed with a Wiggle Fin Action Disc.  $3.79 each.

A hot color that can be effective in deep water impoundments any time. This color prompts a reaction bite from salmon in freshwater. Striper angles have been known to use any color as long as it's chartreuse.
